A Rainy Camp Kintail Wedding on Lake Huron

When I first got an email from B asking me to be their wedding photographer at Camp Kintail, I was so honoured. She had told me the story of how they met at camp as employees, and grew closer as M trained B on the high ropes course. In her own words, “knot tying was hard for me (and heights, at the time) and he was a very patient teacher”. And as the day was finally here, a questionable forecast could never stop these two from celebrating at their favourite place on earth.

For anyone who has spent time in Huron County along the lakeshore, you know to plan for all seasons at all times! What Lake Huron offers in beautiful sunsets and sandy beaches, it comes along with weather that can change on a dime. Mother Nature couldn’t stop this giggly crew though and we timed our group photos perfectly, just in time for the rain to hit as it was M and B’s turn for photos… In their true easygoing form, we ducked for shelter in a nearby outbuilding, running out to the ropes course with umbrellas in hand for as long as the breaks in the downpour would allow. No amount of rain could wash the smiles off their faces as we waited to make a last minute decision and move ahead with an outdoor ceremony.

The Camp Kintail wedding ceremony experience is like nothing else - amphitheatre style seating in the forest, overlooking the lake for the perfect combination of reverence and nature. There was something so beautiful about all their family and friends decked out in rain gear, holding onto hope that the weather would hold off just for them - and it did just that!

Cocktail hour was filled with hugs and sharing stories - catching up with friends who had travelled from near and far. We made sure to gather all of their former coworkers for a very special Camp Kintail staff photo too! Before the reception began, we snuck off for a few more couples’ portraits and a practice run of their first dance choreography on the front porch. And after a group fireball shot, the wedding party made their grand entrance and laughed the night away.

This gorgeous day was such a testament to going with the flow and remembering why everyone is gathered; rain or shine, your love story is always what matters the most!
